Dr Steven Sawkins qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London. He started as a horse vet and then was a cattle, sheep and pig vet before settling as a small animal vet for many years. He had his own veterinary practice in the centre of Bristol for 19 years. He used to regularly come to Cornwall at weekends to dive around the coast here and take underwater photographs in his spare time so it was an easy decision to move permanently to Cornwall in 2014. He was not planning to open another veterinary practice but so many people asked and then the units at Treloggan became available and they were just the right size for a veterinary practice in just the right location… When the Mayor of Newquay pledged his support his fate was sealed! To keep costs down for his clients he did much of the building work himself (all to building standards regulations). Newquay Vet opened in October 2015 and has grown steadily, mainly by word of mouth. Steven would like to thank everyone who has supported him in his new practice and for all the kind reviews posted on Facebook. He says his job is very hard at times but there is nothing he would rather do and greatly enjoys meeting pets and their owners.
Steven lives on a farm with four children, cats, geese, chickens, ducks, sheep, Ruby Red Devon cattle and two Suffolk Punch Horses.
